This event was hosted by celebrity star of the television series, M*A*S*H, Jamie Farr.  Jamie flew in earlier in the week, from California to do a round of publicity specifically for this opening and his support the work of Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri with the Police Athletic League (PAL).  All proceeds of this event went to that endeavor.

 

The day was opened by radio program 620 WDAE, The Sports Animal interviewing Jerry Couzynse, Director of the Crescent Oaks Country Club about the events of the day and what has been accomplished to bring this 6,941-yard par 72, club to becoming a leading golf facility.

 

 

Promptly at 9 a.m., all 132 golfers mounted their carts and commenced the morning in a scramble. The day of good golf and festivities commenced.  

 

While the golfers were out playing, hundreds of other guests poured through the main gates, to take a good look at the newly opened, luxury country club, to the public looking at the exhibits and receiving information about the different categories of membership.  

 

The afternoon event was a continuation of excellent golf after a luncheon buffet provided by the club.  

 

During the evening VIP dinner, which was by invitation only, those attending were honored with a final talk by Jamie Farr about how the professional golfers are the only group where at every one of their tournaments support charity.

There are no finer groups of givers compared to any and all the sports organizations. There were no monies used to bring Jamie Farr to this event and he thanked the Crescent Oaks Golf and Country Club for allowing him to host for this event.  

 

Subsequently, Mr. John Miolla gave the owner of this club, Mr. Bill Place, a heart-felt thanks on behalf of the community of Crescent Oaks for his purchasing of the club and bringing the community together by the revitalization of the golf course.
